About Tennysons:

Live Music & Colorado Whiskey!

Tennyson's Tap is a neighborhood live music bar combined with a recording studio and art gallery that is inspired by the good ol' days and devoted to the success of today's thriving arts and entertainments scene in historic Tennyson Street Cultural District in the North Denver Highlands, where the community has for a hundred years been united by an obsession with art, music, culture and good times. Denver jewel Elitch Gardens lived at the same city intersection: Gardens, Ballroom, Theater, Mister Twister roller coaster, Singers, Dancers, Zoologica, Music, Entertainment. Our community has partied at 38th & Tennyson since 1890! Featuring live music and serving Colorado Spirits. On 38th at Tennyson in the North Denver Highlands, Colorado USA! Please be a part of our village, as it takes a village to raise a bar!

Our Story:

Drummer Dave Fox has run THE ALLEY (Colorado Percussion Institute, Alley Records, and Alley Recording Studios) right here on the corner of 38th and Tennyson since 1991 (see discography on live performance recording page). In support of this passion for music, Fox has thrown and promoted legendary concerts, events, and parties at venues all over the city.

So when old Baron's Lounge next-door closed in June 2009 (after Denver's indoor smoking ban), Fox had the idea to expand the Alley party scene and open to the public...

Fox turned to his former guitarist and brother-in-law Bryan Duncan due not only to his lifelong experience in management and restaurants... also, having lived for years in Austin, Duncan and his wife Laura (hospitality guru and Fox's sister) dreamed of running their own live music bar. Together, along with friend and partner Adrienne Christy, they aimed to create an ideal hangout for musicians, artists, and their friends. So with the help of Fox's entire family and extended family of talented artist and craftspeople friends, and a love of music and whiskey in common, Tennyson's Tap Colorado Whiskey Bar was born.

Epic Artist and Friend Joe Rivera imagineered the giant bass guitar that stands in front of the Tap. Like just about everyone we know, we love Colorado. We are happy to feature regional and local potions and antidotes, in balance with some favorites from other places. Our family would love to treat your family, friends and out-of-town guests to some delicious, fun, and exciting local choices. And hospitality runs in the family-- Laura and Dave's mom Elaine was a home ec. teacher at Laredo Middle School, while their father Dick ran restaurants his entire career, including the original food court at downtown Denver May-D&F Department store, while Laura, Dave & their sister Kim Fox (owner of Fox Media & Marketing) were kids. Living in Colorado since the seventies, they grew up at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and at stadium shows and Rainbow Music Hall, as well as playing in many various bands and with a huge and wonderful array of artists playing: rock, metal, heavy, jazz, swing, concert, drumcorps, funk, hiphop, country, bluegrass and more. The musicians invited to play at Tennyson's are selected by music pros~ so you can always expect a great performance!

As the bluesmen say, Let the good times roll!
